Tomboy (2011)
Director: Céline Sciamma
Starring: Zoé Héran, Jeanne Disson
Ten-year-old Laure arrives in a new neighborhood a few weeks before school starts and introduces herself as a boy named Michael. Michael plays football topless with the other boys, kisses a girl and makes a Clay Doh penis for when he goes swimming with his friends. Tomboy is a minimalist coming-of-age film that treats prepubescent homosexuality with the right amount of ambiguity and truthfulness. And rightfully so. Who knows what when they’re 10?
P.S. And the film features a really awesome download-worthy song. Click HERE to listen.
